In the first six months of 2021, Quang Tri province signed eight international cooperation agreements. Local governmental agencies continue cooperating with foreign partners and enhancing economic diplomacy and international collaboration.
Seventeen non-governmental programs and projects were implemented, focusing on addressing the consequences of bombs and mines, socioeconomic development and poverty alleviation.
So far 31 international non-governmental organizations and 22 international organizations have implemented projects in Quang Tri.
Two projects with a total grant of over US$ 32.5 million are going to be implemented from 2021 – 2025. The province also achieved positive results in cooperating with Laos, controlling the border areas and supporting and collaboration with overseas Vietnamese.

Director of Quang Tri Provincial Department of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Trieu Thuong noted that “to improve the effectiveness of foreign relations and international collaboration, Quang Tri will continue raising awareness among the government agencies, the public and businesses about the importance of foreign relations. In addition, Quang Tri will further strengthen the friendship and cooperation in all sectors with the Lao provinces of Savannakhet and Salavan. Quang Tri plans to improve its promotional program on the province’s culture, history, potential and strengths.”
“Quang Tri will enhance the exchange of information with other provinces and with foreign cities and diplomatic agencies. It will strengthen the collaborative relationship with major donors and non-governmental organizations, including maintaining the cooperation with organizations that have been working in Quang Tri and looking for new partnerships. To do this, Quang Tri will ensure effective investment preparation and promotion, enhance the capacity of officials performing these duties and expand the cooperation with other ASEAN countries and provinces on the East-West Economic Corridor.”
In 2020, Quang Tri achieved significant results in foreign relations and international cooperation despite the Covid-19 pandemic. Notably, 30 agreements were signed, many of which on behalf of the province’s People’s Committee, focusing on education, health, agriculture and war consequence remediation. Quang Tri also assigned delegates to international conferences such as the “Vietnam – Japan Local Leaders 2020,” “Meet Korea 2020” and “Meet Japan 2020.”
The province also carried out the action plan noted in the meeting minute on cooperation in investment, trade, tourism, communications and laborer exchange between Quang Tri, Savannakhet and Mukdahan and successfully held the conference to mobilize development assistance from inernational NGOs in the period 2021 – 2025.
The conference was attended by 200 representatives from state organizations at the central level and representative bodies from other countries and representatives of 60 donors, international organizations and international NGOs, with a total pledged funding budget of US$ 51.8 million.

Quang Tri’s cooperation with the Laos provinces of Savannakhet and Salavan and the Thai province of Mukdahan developed in investment, trade, tourism, labor exchange and communications.
Quang Tri also established cooperating relationship with Ubon Rachthatani (Thailand) in the East-West Economic Corridor via the international border gates of Lao Bao and La Lay. Quang Tri also strived to protect and develop friendly, cooperative and developed border areas, contributing to maintaining a peaceful and stable border environment and creating conditions for socioeconomic development, especially in the border region.
The traditional relations with international organizations, international NGOs and other ASEAN countries continued to be nurtured. Quang Tri successfully hosted and joined many trade and investment promotional forums and conferences.
In 2020, the province mobilized 61 new projects with a total grant of US$ 53.5 million, exceeding the target of US$ 43.5 million. In addition, cultural and tourism promotional activities were strengthened and citizen protection and foreign individual and organization management were implemented effectively.
