The Spring of Ox year photo contest 2021, organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Photographic Association (HOPA) attracted the participation of 374 photographers with 3.480 images. In the category of "Spring in the homeland", 80 photos won prizes including 1 first prize, 2 second prizes, 3 third prizes and 5 consolation prizes. Award-winning pictures were also exhibited, according to VNExpress.

The award ceremony was organized in early February 2021 on Nguyen Van Binh Book Street, Ben Nghe, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City.

The above photo titled “Xuân yêu thương” by Tran Anh Tuan (Hanoi) claimed the first prize. Tuan said that he captured this image as he came across an old couple carrying a peach blossom branch in Duong Lam ancient village in Son Tay Town, Hanoi.

The second prize belonged to “Nắng xuân” (Spring sunshine) photo which was taken in Ho Chi Minh City’s District 5 by Ho Van Thai Hoang.

“One day at the year-end, like every time, I bring a camera with me when going out. Hearing the bustling sound of drum and dragon dance from afar, I reached that place, watched the dance and then decided to take a photo”, Thai Hoang said.

The work named “Tết đoàn viên” (Reunion at Tet) by Nguyen Son Tung gained the second prize. The photo was taken at Ai Quoc commune, Loc Binh district, Lang Son province.

Tet holiday is an occasion for Vietnamese to return to their hometowns to reunite with their family after a long busy year at work.

The photo titled “Hội làng Triều Khúc” (Trieu Khuc village festival) by Bui Dang Thanh earned the third prize.

Trieu Khuc village festival in Thanh Tri, Hanoi was recognized as the National Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2019. The festival is held from January 9 to 12 every year to commemorate the national hero Bo Cai Dai Vuong Phung Hung. In the 8th century, Trieu Khuc village was the place where King Phung Hung rallied soldiers to fight the Tang invaders.

The image “Hạnh phúc giản đơn” (Simple Happiness) by Le Hong Duc (Tuyen Quang) was given the third prize. The photo depicts a Mong ethnic family in Lao Xa village, Sung La commune, Dong Van district, Ha Giang province.

The picture “Chiều xuân” (Spring afternoon) by Tran Ngoc Dung (Ho Chi Minh City) was presented the third prize. It captured the scene of the center of District 1 in the Southern metropolis as lights are illuminated, with iconic architectures, skyscrapers and throngs of people on the street.

The work titled “Bến xuân” (Spring on wharf) by Nguyen Thanh Tung (a Ho Chi Minh City-based resident) was awarded the consolation prize, capturing the scene of a spring flower market from above at Binh Dong wharf, along Tau Hu canal, District 8, Ho Chi Minh City. Boats carrying Tet flowers anchor in close proximity, stretching nearly 2 km, creating a colorful picture.

“Hà Nội đón giáng sinh và năm mới” (Hanoi welcomes Christmas and New Year) work by Pham Van Hoc (Hanoi) was presented the consolation prize.
