	Japanese Professor Becomes "Honorary Citizen Of Dong Khoi" In Ben Tre Province

Professor Thanh has been a member of four scientific associations in the United Kingdom, including the Royal Society of Chemistry since 2010. This is her first election to an international academy.

As a new member, she is honored to have been invited by the Academy of Europe to attend and present her research in the thematic session at the Academy's Annual Conference in Wroclaw, Poland in November 2024, as well as to attend a party with the President of Poland.

The Academy of Europe, founded in 1988, is a non-profit organization that serves as a pan-European Academy of Sciences and Humanities. The Institute's membership includes about 5,500 well-known scientists from various European countries, fields of study, nationalities, and geographical regions. In particular, 72 of them are Nobel Prize winners.

The Institute's mission is to advance scientific research and express great academic achievements in the humanities, law, economics, social and political sciences, mathematics, medicine, and other fields, natural science, and technology throughout the world. Furthermore, one of the Institute's fundamental objectives is to improve inclusive public science education for people of all ages.

To become a member of the Academy of Europe, candidates must initially be nominated by a group of prestigious scientists, after which the Academy carefully reviews the candidate's academic profile and scientific research achievements before electing the candidate by the Scientific Council.

In an interview with Vietnam News Agency reporters in the United Kingdom, Professor Nguyen Thi Kim Thanh expressed her delight and pride in being elected as a member of the Academy of Europe, considering this as recognition for her research achievements, teaching, and the continual efforts and contributions of her and her colleagues in spreading knowledge and passion for scientific research to the community.

"I am honored to be elected as a member of the Academy of Europe. It is great for connecting with brilliant minds in areas such as natural sciences and technology, medical mathematics, humanities, law, economics, society, and political and social sciences. We need a collaborative effort to address the significant international challenges we face today and in the future," shared Professor Thanh.

For Vietnam, she believes that this event would help to improve the international reputation of Vietnamese intellectuals and scientists, allowing them to confidently integrate with the world's advanced research.

Professor Nguyen Thi Kim Thanh is a well-known Vietnamese intellectual among international scientists and has served as the first Vietnamese professor at UCL University since 2013. She graduated with a major in chemistry from the National University of Hanoi in 1992, followed by international research fellowships in the Netherlands and England, where she received her doctorate in 1998.

With a long history of scientific research achievements, she has won many noble awards from prestigious scientific associations and academies around the world, including the 2023 Distinguished Women in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering Awards from the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC), the 2023 Thomas Graham Prize from the SCI/RSC consortium of the Chemical Industry Association and the British Royal Society of Chemistry.

Professor Thanh was awarded the Royal Society of Chemistry's Interdisciplinary Prize in 2022 for his significant contributions to basic research on the chemical production and physical properties of Plasmonic and magnetic nanoparticles for biomedical applications. In 2019, she was presented with the renowned Rosalind Franklin Award and Lecture 2019 from the United Kingdom Academy of Sciences for her contributions to nanomaterials.

In November 2022, she was also invited to lecture at the United Kingdom Royal Institute's long-standing and world-famous scientific lecture series Friday Evening Discourses (FED). Currently, her lecture has received 25,000 views.

She also conducts numerous collaborative research projects with local agencies, organizations, and research institutes to achieve her goal of integrating Vietnamese scientists into the global community. On November 2, 2014, she founded the Vietnam Young Academy (VYA), with the goal of connecting and assisting Vietnamese scientists in the early phases of their careers to have the opportunity to interact and discuss key national and global issues, as well as give ideas for educational innovation and policy growth in Vietnam.

In 2019, the VYA organized the 4th Worldwide Meeting of Young Academies (WWMYA) in Da Nang with support from the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training, the Vietnamese Ministry of Science and Technology, and the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Conference's outstanding outcome was the adoption of the Joint Declaration on the guiding principles for the establishment of the Young Academy, which was then officially announced at the World Science Forum (WSF) in November 2019 in Budapest, Hungary, in the presence of over a thousand scientists, scholars, policymakers, industrialists, and science communicators. Notably, the United Kingdom Young Academy, with the assistance of the Academies and the British Government, was founded in 2022, eight years after the VYA.

Furthermore, Professor Nguyen Thi Kim Thanh participates in a variety of community events, encouraging the youth to pursue their interests in science. She used the Rosalind Franklin Award cash prize to organize a Science Field Camp at the PGL Liddington Adventure Entertainment Center in Wiltshire, England, to inspire and motivate students in grades 8 to 10 from low-income families in London to pursue science and math (STEM) subjects for the GCSE (secondary school) program in April 2023.
