Ambassador Vu Quang Minh joined embassy staff, Vietnamese students, and representatives of the Vietnamese business community and the Khmer-Vietnam Association in Cambodia to recall the historic event of President Ho Chi Minh reading the Declaration of Independence at Hanoi’s Ba Dinh Square on September 2, 1945, thus giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam), according to Nhan Dan Newspaper.

Delegates observed a minute’s silence to commemorate the Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who laid down their lives in Cambodia during wartime, contributing to the revolutionary cause of the two nations.

As part of chains of activities on the occasion, the embassy organized many events, including a friendship football tournament aiming to expand relations between Vietnamese representative agencies in the country and Cambodian ministries and departments.

The Consulate General of Vietnam in Preah Sihanouk province has coordinated with the Vietnamese Embassy and the Khmer-Vietnam Association in Cambodia to receive donations, including rice, masks, and antiseptic solution from Mekong Delta Can Tho city’s Party Committee, authorities, and people to support the Vietnamese families in Cambodia who are in extremely difficult circumstances due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Activities held in Cuba to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day

On August 30, the Vietnamese Embassy in Cuba held a formal ceremony to observe the 75th anniversary of National Day, which saw the presence of representatives from the overseas Vietnamese community, as well as Vietnamese businesses and students in Cuba, Nhan Dan Newspaper reported.

Vietnamese Ambassador Le Thanh Tung reviewed important milestones throughout Vietnam’s resistance wars against French and US invaders, as well as the country’s significant achievements in socio-economic development and international integration over the past few decades.

Offering thanks to international friends, including the brotherly Cuban people, for having always stood side by side with Vietnam during the nation’s struggle, he voiced his belief that despite the difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Vietnam and Cuba will take practical steps to further tighten the cooperation, special solidarity and mutual trust between the two countries’ Parties, Governments, and peoples in 2020, when they celebrate 60 years of bilateral diplomatic relations.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Switzerland recently held a ceremony marking the 75th anniversary of Vietnam’s diplomatic sector (August 28) and the 20th anniversary of the embassy, Vietnam News Agency reported.

Speaking at the event, Vietnamese Ambassador Le Linh Lan reviewed the development and contributions of Vietnam’s diplomatic sector to the past struggle for national liberation and reunification as well as the current cause of national construction and defense.

She said this year holds significance as Vietnam assumes the dual role of a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and rotating Chair of ASEAN.

As Vietnam and Switzerland will celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties next year, Lan said the embassy will stay united and do its best to fulfill political tasks, contributing to promoting bilateral ties and improving Vietnam’s stature on the international arena.

On the occasion, the ambassador also delivered a message of congratulations by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh to officials and cadres of the diplomatic sector working at home and abroad.

Online ceremony to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day in Singapore

On August 31, the Vietnamese Embassy in Singapore also held an online ceremony celebrating the 75th anniversary of the National Day of Vietnam (September 2), Vietnam News Agency reported.

Vietnamese Ambassador Tao Thi Thanh Huong highlighted Vietnam’s achievements since the beginning of this year in its capacity as ASEAN Chair 2020 and a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2020-2021 tenure.

She affirmed that Vietnam is determined to further strengthen friendship and multifaceted cooperation with ASEAN member states, including Singapore, and other countries for a world of peace, prosperity, and sustainable development.

The embassy also presented Vietnamese food vouchers and sent videos to popularize Vietnam’s tourist attractions to partners and embassies in the host country.
