Vietnamese in France Gifts Documentary Photos to National Archives Center

The valuable "Technology of the Annamites" set of photos was conducted by Henri Oger, a Frech researcher in Asian culture.

Vietnam's National Archies Center no. 3 held a ceremony to receive a photo album named: "Technology of the Annamites" from Vu Thi Xuan Phuong, a Vietnamese-origin ethnologist in France. The event took place in Hanoi on June 1. It was attended by Mai Phan Dung, Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nguyen Thiep, former Ambassador of Vietnam to France, Tran Viet Hoa, Director of the National Archives Center no. 3.

Vu Thi Xuan Phuong, an ethnologist of Vietnamese origin, presents the photo album "Technology of the Annamites" to the National Archives Center.

Nguyen Thiep also presented to the center audios about the 1973 Paris Peace Conference provided by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The "Technology of the Annamites" set of photos was conducted by Henri Oger, a researcher in Asian culture. He is a student of Louis Finot, the first director of the French School of Asian Studies in Hanoi.

The photos are the result of field trips and research that Henri Oger and a Vietnamese painter conducted on all the streets of Hanoi and surrounding areas when he served the French far east expeditionary corps from 1908 to 1909.

The album contains photos of occupations in Vietnam in the early twentieth century, printed around the year of 1910.

The album contains photos of all professions in Vietnam in the early 20th century. It was printed around 1910, using the Vietnamese traditional woodblock printing technique on "dó" paper. Only four copies are left today, all stored in libraries in Vietnam and France. However, all copies are in a poor state.

Vu Thi Xuan Phuong's gift to the National Archives Center no. 3 is of great significance, expressing the overseas community's attachment to the homeland, and their desire to preserve the national culture.

National Archives Center no. 3 stores precious documents, creating favorable conditions for many people to approach for research.
